• Regularity: The ACCIONA team has remained on the podium in both rounds, which allows it to remain in direct contention for the lead, now in the hands of Veloce
  • Decarbonization: A former coal mine converted into a renewable facility hosted the circuit to highlight the urgency of the energy transition

The ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team took two second places in the Hydro X Prix Extreme E rounds in Scotland. The ACCIONA team remained on the podium throughout the weekend, thus achieving its goal of remaining among the competition's title contenders.

After a solid performance at the X Prix of Scotland, the ACCIONA team retains second place in the series with 78 points, nine points behind the new leader, Veloce Racing, which has scored both wins.

Today's round, the fourth in the championship, started with a second place in the first qualifying round, the most repeated position of the weekend for ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team. Far from settling, the team led by Laia Sanz and Fraser McConnell dominated the second heat, which qualified them for the final.

The decisive race was decided at the start, where Laia Sanz made a line from the least favorable position to fight for the lead of the race, which finally escaped her by a few meters. After the relay, Fraser McConnell has constantly stalked the leading team until the finish line - only 0.65 seconds separated them - to finally finish in second place, enough to strengthen their championship chances.

IMAGE OF CHANGE

Scotland hosted Extreme E once again this year to show motor racing fans an example of energy transition and commitment to renewable targets, key in the fight against climate change. The weekend's two rounds were held inside the former Glenmuckloch opencast coal mine in the southern Scottish council of Dumfries and Galloway.

The chosen scenario represents the need to advance the energy transition, as the mine has completed the process of conversion to a pumped storage hydroelectric power station (400MW) and a wind farm (150MW). These new renewable facilities will have the capacity to supply some 300,000 homes.

The next stop for the Extreme E series will be one of the classic races, the Island X Prix. Sardinia will once again serve as a reflection of the direct impact of the most extreme climatic phenomena, in particular the fires that ravage the Mediterranean basin. The Italian island will host the next two rounds of the championship, on September 14-15 and 21-22.
