  • Optimization: The contract includes expansion to the base, as well as works to improve its operational capacity

ACCIONA, together with the US group CMS Corporation, has been awarded the contract for the construction of an aircraft parking apron at the Basa Air Base in the Philippines. The works will be carried out for NAVFAC (Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Pacific), the US Navy's engineering systems command, which will be in charge of managing the infrastructure once it is completed. Completion is scheduled for 2026.

The US$33 million (€29.7 million) project includes the construction of an aircraft parking apron, runway shoulders, a new taxiway and road access to the aerodrome. The contract also includes renovation of the integrated stormwater management system, the installation of a fire suppression system, lighting to the apron and other essential works to improve the airfield's operational capacity.

Another relevant aspect of the project is fulfillment of ESG objectives, which ensure that at least 70% of the non-hazardous construction and demolition waste generated must be suitable for reuse, recycling and the recovery of other materials, including using waste in the construction of earthworks to replace other materials.

This is not the first time that ACCIONA has worked for the US Department of Defense. In 2021, the ACCIONA-CMS consortium was chosen to be part of a US$500 million MACC (Multiple Award Construction Contract) Framework Agreement for works at the Rota Naval Base in Spain.
