• Expansion: The company consolidates its commitment to the US with an interactive, technological and innovative approach.

ACCIONA Cultura, a global leader in the creation of museums and exhibitions, has been selected to carry out two of New York’s most iconic museum projects: The Hip Hop Museum in The Bronx, and the revitalization of the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration.

The two projects represent a major step forward in ACCIONA Cultura’s ambition to expand its leadership in the museum and exhibitions sector with further projects in the USA.

The “Ellis Island Museum Reimagined” project is part of a US$100 million revitalization initiative undertaken by the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, which will preserve the 125-year-old historic landmark, enhance its exhibits, and tell a more vibrant story of immigration in a building that once processed twelve million immigrants into the US. ACCIONA Cultura will reimagine installations for a more interactive experience, showcase the museum’s historic architecture, and improve accessibility throughout its 137,000 square feet. The project is expected to be completed in 2026.

The Hip Hop Museum, set to open in late 2025 in the birthplace of the genre in The Bronx will preserve, celebrate, and educate about the rich cultural heritage and artistic contributions of Hip Hop to a global audience. As part of the project, ACCIONA Cultura will build a dynamic space of more than 55,000 square feet, comprising immersive experiences, activities and exhibitions which allow the public to engage and be freely creative with the subject matter.

ACCIONA Cultura, part of Spanish renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure firm ACCIONA, was selected for the projects in competitive processes based on its expertise in creating culturally-significant museums around the world.

The Hip Hop Museum and Ellis Island projects are the latest additions to the company’s portfolio which includes the Grand Egyptian Museum, The House of European History in Brussels, The National Museum of Abu Dhabi, The Real Madrid Experience in Madrid, and the immersive Frida Kahlo experience, exhibited in five countries.

Alex Manresa, U.S. Director at ACCIONA Cultura said: “The history of immigration through Ellis Island and the contribution of Hip Hop to world culture are two of America’s most compelling and fascinating stories, and we take huge pride in being a part of how they will be told. Over the past 30 years, our expert team has developed a unique approach combining creativity, technology, and innovation, underpinned by a focus on sustainability. This approach will be showcased in these two iconic museums in New York, bringing their stories to life for global audiences.”
