  • They will strengthen the quality of supply and integrate renewable energy into the national grid.

ACCIONA has closed two new lines of financing totaling US$220 million for the construction of power transmission lines in Peru, which will strengthen the quality of supply and integrate renewable energy into the national grid. These lines of financing add to those recently signed with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Dutch development bank FMO for a total of US$145 million.

A first syndicated loan of up to US$165 million was signed with Banco Santander and Caixabank for the construction of 386 kilometers of transmission lines, six new substations, and the expansion of another six existing substations in the south of the country. This project will reinforce the power grid in the regions of Arequipa and Ica to ensure the electricity service’s quality, as well as facilitating the development of more than 10GW of renewable energy in the area, which will be a driver of economic growth and a key milestone in achieving the country's decarbonization goals.

ACCIONA has signed a second loan of US$55 million with BBVA, which will be used to finance the Reque-Nueva Carhuaquero, Ica-Poroma and Cáclic-Jaén Norte links. This instrument is a green loan, aligned with ACCIONA's Sustainable Impact Finance Framework. The loan will help improve the transmission nodes between Cajamarca and the Peruvian coast, in order to meet the continued increase in electricity demand in the departments of Ica, Amazonas and Cajamarca with high quality and efficiency of service.

Cuatrecasas acted as the advisor on both lines of financing.

ACCIONA and the World Bank's International Finance Corporation (IFC) announced two weeks ago an agreement to promote environmentally and socially responsible infrastructure projects in emerging markets. As part of this agreement, ACCIONA signed a US$145 million loan with the IFC and the Dutch development bank FMO, the majority of which will go towards funding the Reque-Nueva Carhuaquero (220kV), Nueva Tumbes (220/60kV) and Ica-Poroma (220kV) power lines.

CONSOLIDATED ACTIVITY

ACCIONA has been operating in Peru since 1998. In construction, the company has participated in projects such as the Daniel Alcides Carrión hospital and the control tower at Lima's Jorge Chávez international airport, and it has been selected, in a consortium with Ferrovial and Sacyr, to build Lima’s Peripheral Ring Road, a 34.8-kilometer urban toll road in the metropolitan area of the Peruvian capital, under a concession.

In February 2022, ACCIONA Energía undertook its first project in Peru with the construction of the 131.1MW San Juan de Marcona wind farm in the department of Ica.

ACCIONA's corporate foundation, acciona.org, has been active in the country since 2009 and provides renewable electricity services to more than 50,000 low-income residents of remote areas with no expected conventional grid coverage in Cajamarca, Amazonas, Loreto and Cusco. The foundation has also developed two water and sanitation projects in two villages in the district of Chincha Baja, in the department of Ica, which had a low-quality, scarcely available water network.
