• With a budget of €149 million, the Alentejo Hospital, in the town of Évora, is ACCIONA’s main construction project in Portugal

On June 21, António Costa, Prime Minister of Portugal, visited the Alentejo Hospital in Évora, currently ACCIONA’s largest construction project in the country.

The aim of this project, which has a budget of around €149 million, is to provide the population of Évora, and the entire Alentejo region, with a modern hospital unit that has all the necessary functional groups: inpatient units, technical-care units, outpatient care units, care support units, general support units and training.

In addition to the 10-storey building, work is also underway on the development of 127,000 m2 of green areas, the construction of a heliport and parking areas for 1,560 parking spaces, as well as the construction of the interior roads and a connection to the main hub road connecting the EN 114-Estrada de Lisboa and EN-380.

The construction of the Alentejo Hospital, which will have a capacity of 400 beds, is scheduled for completion in 2024.

During the visit, the Portuguese Prime Minister was accompanied by the Minister for Health, Manuel Pizarro, the Minister for Territorial Cohesion, Ana Abrunhosa, and the Chairman of the Évora Chamber of Commerce, Carlos Manuel Rodrigues Pinto de Sá.

Experience in the hospital sector

ACCIONA has extensive international experience in the execution of hospital projects. In Spain, some of its most notable projects include the Vigo Hospital, the Toledo Hospital, the Infanta Sofía Hospital in Madrid and the Can Misses Hospital in Ibiza.

On the international stage, projects such as the Hospital de la Serena (Chile) or the Hospital del Niño (Panama) -both currently under construction-, as well as the Fort St. John Hospital or the Royal Jubilee Hospital, in Canada, stand out.
