The company was recognized during the GRI Infra Awards ANDEAN 2024 ceremony held in Bogotá, Colombia
ACCIONA has won an award in the Gender Equality category of the GRI Infra Awards 2024 for its program to involve an all-female team in the construction of the Marga Marga Hospital nursery in Chile.
This award, considered one of the highest recognitions for sustainable development in infrastructure in the Andean region, is given by the GRI Club, an institution that brings together leaders of real estate and infrastructure companies from more than 100 countries. The aim of these awards is to highlight projects, programs, actions or initiatives in the transport, energy, water or waste sectors promoted by construction and engineering companies, operators and concessionaires to help these countries (Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and Chile) achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals and boost their economic development.
This ACCIONA initiative has already received other awards in the past, such as the “Organization that Inspires 2021” in the category of large companies, awarded by the Redmad Corporation; the “Women Build” award, presented by the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC); and the “Equal Work-Life Balance” seal, awarded by the National Service for Women and Gender Equality in 2023. In addition, this project contributed to site’s certification to the NCh3262 standard for Good Labor Practices with Gender Equality.
PIONEERING INITIATIVE
The Marga Marga Provincial Hospital, which is more than 92% complete, is the first infrastructure project in Chile to be carried out with a gender perspective. Thanks to this initiative, the construction of the nursery in the Villa Alemana neighborhood of the Valparaíso region is being carried out by an all-female team.
To ensure the success of the construction of this 750 m2 building, women, mainly from the communities of Villa Alemana, Quilpué, Limache and Olmué, were trained by ACCIONA in construction techniques, carpentry, masonry and plastering.
The Marga Marga Provincial Hospital, which will have a total surface area of approximately 75,000 square meters, will have nine wards, 282 beds, three large delivery rooms, dialysis rooms, neonatal, pediatric and adult intensive care units (ICU) and medical and dental procedure rooms, among other medical services that will benefit a population of approximately 500,000 inhabitants.
