  • SUSTAINABLE 50:50 PROJECT: The National Confederation of Construction has recognized this project, which promotes gender equality and female leadership in the construction sector.

The Sustainable 50:50 project, developed by ACCIONA, has won an award for “Best Initiative to Attract Women to the Construction Sector” in the first edition of the National Confederation for Construction (CNC) Awards.

ACCIONA’s program aims to foster gender diversity and equal opportunities in the construction sector, promoting full integration and female leadership in all of the company’s production centers. To this end, the program includes a wide range of national and international initiatives aimed at achieving a minimum of 50% female participation in teams.

The award for Best Initiative, presented by Yolanda Díaz, Second Vice-President of the Government, was received by Marina Cerezo, director of Organization, Talent and Health in ACCIONA’s Construction business.

REFERENCE PROJECTS

The project includes a wide range national and international initiatives to integrate at least 50% women. In Spain, the 50:50 team stands out in the management of contracts in the Balearic Islands, the most important of which is the Palma de Mallorca Airport for AENA, where 15 of the 30 professionals are women.

In 2020, we managed to achieve an equal gender-diverse work team in the construction of the new Loreto Mandeville Hall building in Melbourne (Australia). Through workshops and training programs, ACCIONA gave female participants a comprehensive overview of the different careers and opportunities in the construction industry. This project not only exceeded expectations, with 53% female participation, but also contributed to the development of a supportive and gender-equitable workplace culture.

Another outstanding initiative was the construction of the Nursery at the Marga Marga Provincial Hospital in Chile by an all-female team of 35 women. This is the first infrastructure project in the country to be carried out entirely by women.

In addition, one of the objectives of ACCIONA’s Sustainability Master Plan 2025 is to contribute to SDG 5 of the 2030 Agenda, “Gender equality”. In line with this commitment, the company consistently supports the academic training of women, offering annual scholarships that give them the opportunity to develop their skills and pursue professional careers.

This latest award from the National Confederation for Construction adds to others already received, such as the “Woman that Build 2021” award from the Chilean Chamber of Construction, the “Woman in Construction” seal from the Spanish Ministry of Housing and the “Organization that Inspires 2021” award from the Senior Management Women’s Network.
