  • The fleet used for street cleaning, waste collection and transportation includes electric and hydrogen vehicles

The ACCIONA-Valoriza joint venture has been awarded the contract to provide street cleaning, waste collection and transport services in Sant Cugat del Vallés (Barcelona). The contract has a duration of ten years and a total value of €128.9 million.

The UTE (JV) will be responsible for the collection of different types of waste, both residential and commercial, using the most advanced technologies. It will also include the collection of waste oil from households, as well as street cleaning throughout the municipality, with manual and mechanical sweeping and washing.

Sant Cugat is a benchmark municipality in the Barcelona metropolitan area, and advanced collection procedures will be applied in Sant Cugat, such as lockable containers, container changeover services in the center, as well as completely new technologies in Spain, such as the incorporation of two hydrogen-powered vehicles: a collector and a sweeper.

In addition, electric collection vehicles will be used to make a highly sustainable and differentiated fleet for urban sanitation. In short, a major step forward will be achieved in terms of collection services that comply with waste legislation and minimize the environmental and noise impact of the machinery used.

ACCIONA specializes in the cleaning, maintenance and upkeep of urban public spaces, providing sustainable solutions to meet the needs of citizens. The company has extensive experience in waste collection and street cleaning services in numerous municipalities in Spain, such as Alcobendas, Torrevieja and Palencia.
