• ACCIONA was chosen one of the 22 best employers in Canada by the Top Employers Institute

ACCIONA, a leading renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure company building some of Canada’s largest construction projects, has been named one of the country’s best employers, and has been recognized among the top workplaces across North America for the third consecutive year.

ACCIONA’s ongoing projects in Canada include the extension of Vancouver’s Millenium subway line; a 280 MW wind farm in Forty Mile County, Alberta; construction of the Site C Dam in British Columbia; and the new Pattullo Bridge in Metro Vancouver.

ACCIONA was chosen one of the 22 best employers in Canada by the Top Employers Institute, a leading global organization in the recognition of excellence in human resources practices. The award is one of the most demanding and prestigious in the world in human resources management.

The Institute evaluates organizations based on 20 criteria including work environment, promotion of employee well-being, diversity and inclusion, human resources strategy, talent recruitment and training, and other factors contributing to the quality of both the workplace and the workforce.  

ACCIONA also received Top Employer designation in Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, the United States, Chile, and South Africa, and has obtained it for the first time in Peru and the Philippines.

 

BACKGROUND: CANADA PROJECTS

ACCIONA has been creating important Canadian infrastructure since 2000 when it was selected to undertake one of Canada’s most important hydraulic projects in Toronto. Today, the company has become among the most active companies in the Canadian infrastructure market. More than 2,100 workers are currently employed across ACCIONA’s major projects in Canada.

ACCIONA Energía, ACCIONA’s renewable energy subsidiary, operates four wind farms in addition to the Forty Mile wind farm project. Once complete, its wind capacity in Canada will be 460MW.

Other major projects in Canada include the Walterdale Bridge in Edmonton; the A-30 highway in Quebec; the Herb Gray Parkway and the Windsor Essex Parkway in Ontario; and the South East Stoney Trail in Alberta. It has also upgraded the water distribution system in St. John, New Brunswick.

As part of the Fraser Crossing Partners consortium, ACCIONA recently completed foundation works for the new Pattullo Bridge over the Fraser River in Metro Vancouver, which is scheduled for completion in 2024. Its Broadway subway project, in consortium with Ghella, is a 5.7-kilometre extension of Vancouver’s Millennium Line that will add six stations in one of the city's most vibrant neighborhoods and connect the VCC-Clark station to Broadway and Arbutus.
