- ACCIONA uses renewable biofuel that reduces CO₂ emissions by 90%
ACCIONA has become the first Spanish company to decarbonize its main center of machinery, located in Noblejas (Toledo).
ACCIONA uses the renewable biofuel Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), as a fuel for its heavy machinery and has integrated electrical equipment for its lighter machinery.
HVO is a renewable biofuel derived from vegetable waste oil that can reduce CO₂ emissions by 90% compared to conventional fossil fuels, making it an ideal choice for heavy machinery used in civil engineering. ACCIONA has also progressively incorporated lighter electrical machinery.
In addition, the Noblejas pool of machinery is powered by a 100kWp photovoltaic system, making it an international benchmark in the decarbonization of construction.
The first case of using this renewable biofuel in ACCIONA’s works was the construction of the Fargo-Moorhead Flood Diversion Channel in the United States, where a reduction of 3,700 tons of CO₂ was achieved between 2023 and 2024.
This initiative is part of ACCIONA’s Sustainability Master Plan 2025 and is financed by its Decarbonization Fund, reinforcing the company’s commitment to reducing emissions and combating climate change.
