• With the support of health professionals, the company offered these children various lectures and courses on healthy habits, hygiene and mental health.

As part of its commitment to the development of the communities surrounding its projects, ACCIONA has carried out an educational program on physical and mental health for the children of Papayal (Tumbes, Peru), where the company is building an electricity transmission network that will benefit 1.3 million people in the regions of Cajamarca, Lambayeque and Tumbes, in the north of the country.

The program consisted of a series of talks and courses given by professionals from the Papayal Health Center to 208 high school students from the José Carlos Mariátegui Educational Center in the district. This group of psychologists, obstetricians, surgeons and nurses informed the children about healthy lifestyle habits, physical and psychological changes related to puberty, proper use of food, mental health or oral health.

These talks were complemented by various practical workshops and debates, as well as the distribution of informative posters on the foods recommended for a balanced diet, among other topics.

This initiative is part of the social impact management strategy that ACCIONA implements in all of its major infrastructure projects, with the aim of contributing to meeting the main needs of the communities in which it operates, thus guaranteeing an important legacy in the towns surrounding its projects.

REQUE-TUMBES TRANSMISSION NETWORK

In 2022, Peru’s Private Investment Promotion Agency (Proinversión) awarded ACCIONA the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of an electricity transmission network that will benefit a total of 1.3 million people in the Cajamarca, Lambayeque and Tumbes regions in the north of the country.

The contracts consist of the “220kV Reque - Nueva Carhuaquero link, substations, lines and associated extensions” and the “Nueva Tumbes 220/60kV - 75MVA substation and the 60kV Nueva Tumbes - Tumbes line”. Both projects, commissioned by the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), will ensure a high quality, specialized and sustainable electricity service and stimulate new productive, commercial and tourism activities in the region.

The first of these will add 300 MVA of capacity between the cities of Chiclayo and Cajamarca to the existing 150 MVA, through a new connection that will benefit 1.1 million people. This will meet the growing demand for electricity in the northern region (Cajamarca and Lambayeque) and facilitate an adequate interconnection between Peru and Ecuador by strengthening the exchange of electricity with the neighboring country.

The “Nueva Tumbes 220/60kV - 75MVA substation and the 60kV Nueva Tumbes - Tumbes line” will benefit 246,000 people and will essentially prevent the overloading of the old Zorritos substation - the existing one - and cover the projected growth of electricity demand in the area for the next 15 years.

The concession will last for 30 years from the date of commercial operation, which is scheduled for February 2026 and April 2025, respectively.
