ACCIONA has reached an important milestone in the construction of São Paulo´s Metro Line 6 (Brazil) by connecting Patio Morro Grande - which houses railway workshops and depots - with the future Brasilândia Station, marking a new phase in the development of this section of the project.
Of the 1,850 meters of tunnels connecting these two stops, more than 560 meters correspond to a main underpass, the rest being galleries connecting the main track with Patio Morro Grande. This connection is crucial and integrates the heart of the Line 6 project, since it is where the Control and Operation Center, located in Patio Morro Grande, and the line's tunnel network converge.
With the completion of this phase, construction of the rail yard is approximately 65% complete. So far, more than 850 tons of metallic structures have been installed in the maintenance and parking areas for the 22 trains that will run through Line 6, corresponding to a space of more than 213,000 m², the equivalent of 26 soccer fields. In addition, the installation of the permanent track in Patio Morro Grande has been completed, totaling more than 8,700 meters of track.
For the construction of the Brasilândia Station, located at a depth of 32 meters, more than 160,000 m³ were excavated and approximately 53,000 m³ of concrete and 9,000 tons of steel were used.
KEY ASPECTS
With 15 kilometers long and 15 stations, Line 6 of the São Paulo Metro will connect the Brasilândia neighborhood, in the North Area, with the São Joaquim Station, in the Central region of the city, reducing to only 23 minutes the travel time, which today takes one and a half hours by bus. The metro line is expected to serve 630,000 passengers a day.
The project, currently the largest infrastructure project in Latin America, is a public-private partnership (PPP) between the São Paulo State Government and Concesionaria Linha Universidade. The works are being executed by ACCIONA and are currently generating more than 9,000 jobs. Once completed, the line will be operated by the Linha Uni concessionaire for 19 years.
