Green hydrogen, produced with 100% renewable energy, is proving to be a key energy development in achieving international targets for energy decarbonisation and the fight against climate change, within the climate neutrality timescale that the international community has set as its goal for 2050.
Hydrogen is not a source of energy, but rather a way of allowing clean energy to be stored and used when necessary. It can therefore add flexibility to the electricity system and boost the decarbonisation of sectors that are difficult to electrify, such as heavy transportation. It will also make it possible to reduce the carbon footprint of sectors that use hydrogen in their industrial processes, including but not limited to fertiliser production.
At ACCIONA, we are experts in solutions that can incorporate green hydrogen into an energy decarbonisation plan. We built Spain’s first industrial green hydrogen plant in Mallorca and are building a second plant in Navarre, as part of the joint venture created between ACCIONA Energía and US electrolyser manufacturer Plug Power, aimed at the industrial and mobility sectors in Spain and Portugal.
