This project was the first time that foam was ever used in Spain to condition the ground for this type of mechanized excavation.

A 6.52-m diameter EPB (Earth Pressure Balance) tunnel boring machine was used to construct two parallel 4.6-km tunnels connecting the Alameda and Avinguda stations for Valencia’s Metro. This project was completed in April 2003.
