5km

busway

5 km of busway, 12 km of cycling routes and five bus stations.

ACCIONA, in a consortium with Fletcher, will design and construct various stages of the Eastern Busway, part of Auckland’s transport system in New Zealand and one of the most critical infrastructure projects in the city.

The ACCIONA consortium will be responsible for works totaling NZ$700 million (€400 million). The US engineering firms Aecom and Jacobs will collaborate on the design side.

The project includes the construction of 5km of busway, including a 590-metre flyover (Rā Hihi) over Reeves Road to connect Pakuranga Road with the Southeastern Arterial Highway, 12km of safe and separated walking and cycling routes, and five new bus stations.

By 2028 the busway will carry 18,000 passengers per day, more than four times the 3,700 bus passengers per day before Covid-19. By 2048 it is expected to increase to 24,000 passengers per day.
