7.800m

reconstructed

7 km, one double viaduct, 3 level crossings and 10 subways

Construction of the Guadalfeo - La Gorgoracha section, belonging to the A-7 Mediterranean Highway, 4 km in length, and the GR-14 Highway, West Access to the Port of Motril, 3.1 km in length.

This section of the Mediterranean Highway is a new construction; it has a viaduct located over an important ecological area, three highway overpasses and 10 highway underpasses. Both highways connect to each other via the Guadalfeo Junction, which is included in the 12-GR-3540 project corresponding to the Lobres - Guadalfeo section of the A-7 Mediterranean Highway. However, this project includes a large part of said Junction as an initial provisional connection. The Guadalfeo Junction is located on the left side of the N-323 National Road leading to Motril, near P.D. 193.

TECHNICAL DATA

The section of the Autovía del Mediterráneo starts at the Guadalfeo junction, the current junction between the national roads N-340 (k.p. 329) and N-323. The project included:

  • Construction of 7,803 m of dual carriageway.
  • Volume of earthworks: 2.8 million m3 in cuttings and 2.4 million m3 in embankments.
  • Viaduct 220 m long with four spans of different lengths, the first 75 m long.
  • Viaduct to cross the Cañizares riverbed: It consists of two structures, one per carriageway, located on a curve with a radius of 1,300 m. Both viaducts are built over the Cañizares river. Both viaducts have a built length of 220 m, formed by spans of 75.00 - 60.00 - 50.00 - 35.00 m respectively.
  • Rectification of the first curve of the N-323 road at the exit of the roundabout, increasing the radius to 460 m for the right-hand carriageway and 450 m for the left-hand carriageway.
  • Separation between the two carriageways of four metres in width in most places, increasing occasionally in specific sections.
  • Modification of the Lobres intersection to adapt it to the new configuration of the N-323. A large-diameter roundabout was designed, with two junctions from the N-323 and from the SO-22 road, as well as two more entrances for secondary roads.
  • Type E3 road surface.
  • Roadbed of the dual carriageway made up of 25 cm of aggregate, 15 cm of HMA G-20, 7 cm of HMA S-20 and a wearing course of 3 cm of HMA M-10.
  • 13 transversal drainage works.
  • Road safety, signalling and beaconing works.
  • Construction of various auxiliary works: medians, emergency posts, enclosures and traffic diversions.
  • 3 motorway overpasses.
  • 10 motorway subways.

For the execution of the works it was necessary to divert and replace the affected services: high and medium voltage power lines, telephone lines, water supply network and irrigation networks consisting of tanks, irrigation channels and pipes. Most of the areas affected by these services are located in the widening of the GR-14 road at the Guadalfeo junction, as this area is close to the urban centres of Motril and is also used for agricultural purposes (irrigated crops).
