ACCIONA employs its own methodology for identifying, assessing, and managing all impacts derived from its business activities.
This key tool is used to measure and improve the environment and communities with which we engage, and is adapted to fit the corporation’s business, with a focus on all the countries in which we operate.
The methodology is based on international standards and comprises four main phases:
PHASES OF THE GIS METHODOLOGY:
- Social risk characterisation: This phase involves studying the degree of social risk associated with the project by characterising the social risk from the design and tender phase.
- Social evaluation of the project: Here, the sociodemographics of the population in the project’s area of influence are analysed, and the positive or negative social impacts are identified and assessed. A proposal for social measures is also prepared.
- Communication and dialogue with the communities: Depending on the type of project, lines of communication or dialogue are established with local communities and other stakeholders to inform them about the project, its main impacts, and the social measures to be implemented.
- Implementation and monitoring of measures: In this phase, the identified measures are launched to prevent and mitigate any negative social impacts and reinforce the positive ones.
ACCIONA considers the management of the social impact of its projects and services to be one of the strategic issues within its sustainable business model.
Infrastructures that drive a more sustainable development.
ACCIONA seeks to maximise the sustainable impact of its projects. In line with this vision, the company has designed its Enhanced Impact Solutions—business solutions that include additional initiatives implemented during the execution of the main project to generate further positive social and environmental impacts.
This solution focuses on improving the living conditions of local populations and/or the environment. It takes into account not only the direct effects of the infrastructure itself but also the additional, indirect impact on the surrounding environment or the services provided.
By adopting this approach, ACCIONA accelerates the achievement of the 2030 Agenda objectives through additional activities that increase its positive impacts. This is guided by three key principles:
- Rigorous analysis of local context
- Tangible, real improvements
- Collaboration with third parties
