• ‘FIELDNOTES’: It will last three years and each edition will be focused on a topic portrayed by an internationally renowned photographer
  • ‘AQUATIC ACUITY’: Javier Vallhonrat undertakes the first photography series for this project, which is dedicated to water and exhibited in the Royal Palace of La Granja
  • EXHIBITION: The photographs can be seen as part of the PHotoESPAÑA Festival, starting in June in Madrid’s Campo del Moro gardens and in September in the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso

PHotoESPAÑA, Spain’s National Heritage agency and ACCIONA announced today an agreement to jointly promote the Fieldnotes (Cuadernos de Campo) photography project.

This three-year initiative will allow major photographers to capture through artistic photographs the natural heritage present in the most emblematic places of Spain’s National Heritage agency.

This year, the selected photographer is Javier Vallhonrat, winner of Spain’s National Photography Prize (1995), who has produced a series dedicated to the fountains of the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso, commemorating the 300th anniversary of their creation under King Philip V.

The exhibition titled Fieldnote Nº1: Aquatic Acuity (Cuaderno de Campo Nº1: los ingenios del agua), puts the spotlight on the fountains’ original hydraulic system, which is still in operation.

The more than 200 images can be seen as part of the PHotoESPAÑA Festival in Madrid’s Campo del Moro gardens, and in September the exhibition will move to the Royal Site of La Granja de San Ildefonso, so that the images can be enjoyed in context.

In addition, the photographs will be included in a publication that will be launched next fall.

COLLABORATION

PHotoESPAÑA, Spain’s National Heritage agency and ACCIONA already collaborated in 2022, when they jointly promoted the exhibition titled Sebastião Salgado and the Royal Collections: encounters around landscape photography, which was displayed at the Royal Palace in Madrid.

ACCIONA and PHotoESPAÑA have been collaborating since 2017 to jointly give visibility to an artistic look at the human impact on nature and natural resources.

Last year, ACCIONA sponsored the Edward Burtynsky: African Studies exhibition. In previous editions, ACCIONA and PHotoESPAÑA have also gone hand in hand in some emblematic exhibitions, such as We’re Water (Somos Agua) by Isabel Muñoz, which was displayed at the Lázaro Galdiano Museum and became one of the most visited exhibitions of the festival’s 2021 edition, and the photographic and audiovisual exhibition S.M.A.R.T, which was one of the main activities of the 2019 edition.

The collaboration between both entities was not interrupted in 2020 as well, when they collaborated to promote the #PHEdesdemibalcón contest in the 2020 virtual edition, which brought to light the nature emerging in urban environments emptied by the irruption of COVID19.

PHotoESPAÑA is a photography festival that has been held annually in Madrid since 1998 and has set an international benchmark in the visual arts, both for the quality of the works and authors in the official section, as well as for the cultural initiatives it promotes to disseminate the cultural and aesthetic value of photography in society.
